Sant Sarwan Dass Charitable Eye Hospital, Ballan
Every year a free eye camp is held at Dera Sachkhand Bal since the year 1967
. In this camp eye checkup of hundreds of patients is done. Surgical operations are carried out and lenses are implanted free of cost. All these camps since the year of their inception are held regularly without break and the whole expenditure of the camps is met by Shri Swaran Bangar and his family from U.K. who originally belong to village Bal. These camps are held in the memory of his father Shri Ditta Ram Ji.
Around the year 2003-04
the Punjab Govenment stopped all eye operations being carrid out in the field. It was mandatory for all eye operations to be conducted only in well-equipped operation theatres of the hospital. As a result of these orders during the eye camps at the Dera only eye check-up was done and for operations the patients had to be shifted to Sant Sarwan Dass Charitable Hospital at Adda Kathar.
Shri Swaran Bangar was not fully satisfied with this arrangement becouse he had a deep attachment to the Dera. So he requested Sant Niranjan Dass Ji to build an eye hospital at the Dera himself and at the same time offered to give a personal donation of Rs. 1,00,01,111 (One Crore One Thousand One Hundred and Eleven Rupees). As a result of his initiative Maharaj Ji acceded to his request and laid the foundation stone of the Sant Sarwan Dass Charitable Eye Hospital at Dera Sachkhand Bal on 10-11-2004.
A beautiful and modern design of the hospital was adopted. Construction of a two storey building was completed and inaguration of the hospital was done by Sant Niranjan Dass Ji on 15th February, 2007 on the birthday celebration of Sant Sarwan Dass Ji. Care was taken to provide for all the facilities needed in a modern eye hospital such as operation theatre fitted with Phaco-Emulsifisation machine horizontal Autoclave, Pre-OT room, male & female wards, four OPD rooms and an instrument room equipped with Yag Laser Machine Microscope, Slit Lamp, A Scan etc. The building has a very spacious OPD hall, meeting room for doctors and a Trust office. Due to the quality of the service being provided in the hospital, it has become very popular for eye surgery in the area.
Very nominal rates are charged from the patients for all the services being provided in the hospital. Poor patients are exempted even from these nominal charges. The shortfall of income verses expenditures is met by the Dera Sachkhand Bal.
The hospital has got standby 62.5 KVA power supply generator and an independent tubewell for water supply.
